A Touch of Disney in Black History – Louise Beavers

Louise Beavers (1902-1962) was an African American film and television actress. She appeared in several films and television shows from the 1920s until 1960, most often cast in the role of a maid, slave, or servant.  Ms. Beavers was cast as Delia in The Swamp Fox, a television miniseries produced by Walt Disney and starring Leslie Nielsen as an American Revolutionary War hero.  The Swamp Fox did not bring the success that had been achieved by Davy Crockett.  Ms. Beavers was inducted into the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame in 1976.  She was an honorary member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.
