I think I have a Vinylmation addiction. The first step in getting help is acknowledging the problem. However, I think it is a good addiction and not a problem. Well like minded Vinylmation collectors will back me up. I started collecting about two years ago. I remember seeing these “Mickey statues” in the gift shop near Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I picked up a blind box (you do not know what you are getting with most series until you open the box), looked at it for a couple of seconds, and then put it back down.
Let’s fast forward to today. I have 205 – 3” single Vinylmations, 7 – 3” Vinylmation sets (includes the Vinylmation ice tray set), 16 – 9” Vinylmations, 1 – 7” Light up Vinylmation, 10 – Jr. Vinylmations, and 1 Pop Vinylmation. I try to get at least one out of each series. I have complete sets of Holiday 1, Cutesters 1, and Have A Laugh. When I went on the Dream for my first Disney cruise last year, I purchased the 9” Vinylmation and had the captain to sign the box. My favorite one is a pink Create Your Own Vinylmation autographed by Anika Noni Rose at the 2011 D23 Expo. Very good friends of mine, who are also Vinylmation collectors, were able to ask her for her autograph. My other 3” Vinylmations are kept in a multi-level display box ($9.99) from The Container Store . My collection is kept in my home office.
I also enjoy collecting Vinylmations with friends. It is fun predicting what each one of us will pull when selecting blind boxes. Most of all I enjoy introducing others to Vinylmation collecting and watching their collections grow. Just ask Sara M. ( @DisneySara ) about our trip last December. She came to Disney World with one Vinylmation at home and left with over 20 in her luggage to take home.
I have attended The Trade City and The Florida Project Vinylmation events. I am looking forward to attending Mickey’s Circus this September. I cannot wait to see the sneak preview of merchandise on April 11th.
Whether you are just a beginner or collecting since day one, I would love to hear about your collection. I would also like to hear about how you display your collection as well. I am running out of space…..FAST!!!
