Mean Muggin’ Monday

Today’s mug  is showing my school spirit for Monsters University.  I guess this mug was made for a monstrous appetite that needs huge quantities of caffeine to study.  I purchased the mug at the Disney Store.  It is also available at DisneyStore.com and retails for $12.50.

“Oz The Great and Powerful” Review (No Spoilers)

Oz The Great and Powerful made its way into theaters on 3/8/13 and has been one anticipated movie.  We grew up watching The Wizard of Oz and now here is another film that can take us deeper into the Land of Oz. I saw the movie with my fellow Disney Store Cast Members.  There is nothing like watching a Walt Disney Picture with a group of Disney-loving Cast Members.  The Regal cinemas at Mall of Georgia is usually packed on a Friday night.  However, I was surprised it was not bustling with people.  We chose to go to the 10:25pm showing in order for Cast Members closing to be able to attend.  I am not a night person and had been up since 3am.  So staying up was a struggle for me.  The theater was not full once we got settled in, but the showing before us looked to have more people.

The movie started off in black & white and that should not have been a surprise to me. I was introduced to Oscar Diggs (James Franco), somewhat playboy, small-time traveling circus magician, who was carried away to the land of Oz in a hot air balloon.  He encounters three witches Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams). Oscar, who now is known as the Wizard, battles with himself in doing the right thing to save a land from the Wicked Witch.

The movie started off slow for me and I did find myself yawning. I am not sure if that was due to me being tired and no coffee to perk me up or just bored.  Once the land of Oz appeared, I “woke” up.  I loved the vibrant colors of Oz and the quirkiness  of its people.  How the Wicked Witch evolved held my attention because I wanted to know how she became who she was.  Lets just say a woman scorned can be deadly.  The China Girl (Joey King voice) was more than what I expected, she turned out to be fearless despite what she experienced.   Now Finley (Zach Braff voice) stole the show for me. I would go back just to see this flying monkey, who was full of one liners and laughs.  It would not surprise me if the Finley plush will be very popular now.

The evil flying monkeys, which looked more like baboons, could scare children and even squeamish adults (I could fit in this category for some movies).  They do have close- ups, so be warned. Overall, I do feel a child could sit through this movie despite the evil flying monkeys appearances. I did not see the movie on an IMAX screen or in 3D. I do not feel I missed out on that experience because things did tend to leap out on the regular screen.

Am I disappointed I spent $11.50? No I am not. I would say I thought the movie was good and would go back to see it at least one more time. I would even purchase the DVD.  However, it did not leave me feeling like “wow”.  I would say go to see it at least once.

In My Disney Store (12/29/12)

I went to my Disney Store to check out new items and chat with my fellow Cast Members. Here is a photo tour of my Disney Store located at the Mall of Georgia.  There were several new items that I am very excited about.

Disney Villains Designer Collection Release Information

On the heels of the success of the Disney Princess Designer Collection, the Disney Stores are introducing the Disney Villains Designer Collection to begin Monday, September 10, 2012 and ending on October 15, 2012.

The release schedule is as follows:

Maleficent  – September 10th

Evil Queen – September 17th

Queen of Hearts – September 24th

Ursula – October 1st

Mother Gothel – October 8th

Cruella de Vil – October 15th

When a doll is released on Monday, it will be available on DisneyStore.com on Tuesday.  For example, Maleficent will be in stores on September 10th and then available for purchase on online on September 11th.   There will be a limited number of the complete 6 doll sets available for pre-order at DisneyStore.com on August 20, 2012 at 12:01am PT.  The complete set will be shipped together before or after the last doll is released on October 15th.

Now some of us know firsthand or heard about the madness the Disney Princess Collection releases created, including people waiting in lines at the stores for hours and the website crashing due to the overwhelming amount of people attempting to order the dolls.  The Disney Store has created new procedures for purchasing a doll on the release date as well a list of the participating stores.  You can find the document here

My goal is to be at my store located at the Mall of Georgia to report on the first release day as well as the additional merchandise that will be released.  Hopefully Kelsey ( @kelskc ) will join me on this adventure.  We usually do these Disney Store releases together.  Check out Kelsey’s blog, n3rdgrl.com , to read about previous events we have attended.

The following is a list of merchandise that will be available beginning September 10th I am figuring:

Disney Villains Designer Collection Fashion Top

Disney Villains Designer Collection Mugs

Disney Villains Designer Collection Villains Varnish (nail polish)

Disney Villains Designer Collection Note Card Set

Disney Villains Designer Collection Lip Gloss

Fabulous Find Friday- La Luna Book and Bambino Plush

Today’s fabulous items are the La Luna storybook and Bambino Plush, who is holding a star in his hand.  I was exposed to La Luna when the Pixar short had its theatrical release on 6/22/12 before Pixar’s Brave.  In doing research, I learned the short, written and directed by Enrico Casarosa, was debuted in 2011 at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France.  La Luna was nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film at the 84th Academy Awards.

La Luna is about a young boy, Bambino, who learns about the job his father and grandfather have. They sweep fallen stars off of the moon’s surface.  The men disagree on how Bambino should wear his new hat and even what tool he should use to sweep the stars.  Bambino finds his own identity in how he wears his hat and the way he sweeps the fallen stars.

La Luna and Bambino plush were sold as a set on DisneyStore.com .  However it sold out in less than a day.  I purchased the book at Barnes & Noble for $14.99.  I ordered the 12” Bambino plush from DisneyStore.com for $16.50.

Disney Store 25th Anniversary Celebration

I was able to attend the celebration today held at Mall of Georgia Disney Store located in Buford, GA.  I am also a Cast Member at this store.  My main role is a member of the Stage Set Team.  When you walk in the store and see merchandise moved around or new items on stage, the Stage Set Team has moved fixtures and merchandise usually on a Sunday evening into early Monday morning for new sales or promotions.  I began working for The Disney Store several years ago on a part-time basis.  However, I had to stop working two times due to full-time job obligations.  I started working again for the company in 2008 and reached my three year mark in November of last year.

I attended the celebration with friend, Kelsey F (@Kelskc and  N3rdGrl  blog founder).  When I arrived at the mall, there was already a line and a trivia game was being played to keep the guests entertained.  I was allowed in the store early due to Cast Members receiving gifts for the anniversary.  I was surprised and pleased to see how the company was showing their appreciation to the Cast Members. Of course I fell in love with everything from the Light-up Sorcerer Mickey Vinylmation to the napkins and cups for us to use with our snacks. I also enjoyed talking to Cast Members who I do not see on a regular basis due to my work schedule at the store.  I walked around the store with my Mickey Mouse ears on talking to other guests about Vinylmations, attending One More Disney Day (I had my shirt on) and just going the park.

I had a wonderful time at the “party” with fellow Cast Members and Kelsey.  Below are pictures taken at the store as well as the gifts I received.  If you attended the celebration at your Disney Store, please feel free to let me know how you enjoyed your experience.
