I signed up to participate in my first marathon. During the 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend Expo, I began to think about doing a marathon. Just the thought of 26.2 miles made me question my sanity. I have done eight half marathons ( 7 at Walt Disney World and 1 at Disneyland).
I earned my first Coast To Coast medal in 2014. I have to be honest in saying I did not train as I should. The excuses were work, time, work, time, and more work. I could have made time without a doubt. I cannot go back in time and must focus on what I must do today.
I have looked at many different marathon training programs. Knowing me, I will end up doing what feels comfortable and that is run/walk intervals. As of now, my intervals are usually set by songs. I purchased a Garmin and will see how I do with setting scheduled intervals. I want to see how I would do with listening for beeps. With music, I am usually singing the songs in my head and trying not to start dancing when a good song comes on. To become more accountable, I have been keeping track of workouts and scheduling them in my Passion Planner.
With this being my first marathon, I am nervous, very nervous. After hitting submit, I wondered why I made such a decision without having a cup of coffee. I stopped the doubts and with confidence began thinking about all the reasons of why I signed up for this. I want a healthier me. I want to step out of “my box”. I want to do new things. Most importantly I want to say I accomplished 26.2 miles in my happy place. I am not fast but I will keep moving forward.
The Walt Disney World Marathon takes place January 10, 2016. Stay tuned for more updates on these brown legs.
