Disney Behind the Scenes – Sherman Hemsley

Sherman Hemsley was an African-American actor who just passed away July 24, 2012.  Mr. Hemsley’s most popular role was the wise cracking dry cleaning owner, George Jefferson.  He also starred in the television series Amen and Goode Behavior.  Mr. Hemsley was the voice of Bradley P. Richfield, Earl Sinclair’s large tyrannical boss in the television series Dinosaurs.  This information was new to me because the character that most stood out was Baby and his famous phrase “Not the mama”.

From Jacob’s Crib

Hi I’m Jacob.  I know some of you may have seen my picture on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.  If you do not know me, I am the 8 month old nephew of the “brown eyes” of this blog.  You may know her as Elantrice or “E”.  I know her as Auntie E.  She has shown me so many Disney things in my short time here on earth.  I have Disney plush, clothes and even a Duffy bear.

I decided to do a guest spot because I will be going on my first trip to Walt Disney World this September.  I do not know who is more excited, my Auntie E or mama (@jhgive).  I will be attending my first Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival (eating not drinking!!).   I’m very excited about participating in the The Twlight Zone Tower of Terror 10-miler Diaper Dash.  Mama has even bought me a new race outfit that will help me go super fast.

So I will pop up every now and then to let you know how I’m getting ready for the big trip and do a trip report.  Well since I am a baby blogger now, do I need to get a twitter handle to be official?

From Your Future Prince Charming,

Jacob

Fabulous Find Friday – Personalized Disney Binder

Today’s fabulous find is a Disney personalized notebook.  Besides my love of bags, I do love a good binder.  I knew  DisneyStore.com   had personalized items.  However, I did not know they had binders as well.  The binders are made by Avery and the personalization is done by Zazzle.  You can chose your design and binder size.  I chose the 2” 3-ring, which appears to be the largest size offered, due to the notebook being used for blog information.  The prices range from $18.95-$20.95.

Tasty Thursday: Spinach Artichoke Dip

It isn’t the 2nd Thursday but it is Thursday nonetheless, so here is what I’m sharing this week:  spinach artichoke dip from the ESPN Zone.  Your blog host Elantrice forwarded this recipe to me as a request to make for the birthday party I threw for her earlier in the month.  I thought it came out great, the best spinach artichoke dip I have made thus far.

You can find this at ESPN Zone in Downtown Disney at Disneyland.

Spinach Artichoke Dip
Adapted from ESPN Zone
Makes 8 Cups

Ingredients:
2 Tbsp. butter
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup heavy cream
2 cups whole or 2% milk
1/8 tsp. white pepper
2 1/2 cups Parmesan cheese, grated
1 tsp. coarse salt
1 tsp. ground black pepper
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp. hot sauce
1-8 oz. package cream cheese, cut into cubes and softened
2 1/2-10 oz. boxes frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
2-14.5 oz. cans quartered artichoke hearts, drained
1 cup mozzarella, shredded
Tortilla chips, carrot and celery sticks, garlic bread, for serving

Directions:
1.  Preheat oven to 350°F.

2.  Melt butter in a large stockpot over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté 2 minutes.  Add flour; cook for 4 minutes, stirring constantly. Slowly whisk in cream and milk, then bring to simmer, whisking often until sauce is thick and coats the back of a spoon.

3.  Add white pepper and Parmesan, stirring until well incorporated. Remove from heat. Add salt, pepper, Worcestershire, and hot sauce. Mix well.

4.  Fold in cream cheese, stirring well until cream cheese is completely incorporated. Add spinach, stirring to combine. Add artichoke hearts, stirring gently so as not to break up the artichokes.

5.  Pour mixture into a 9×9-inch baking dish and sprinkle mozzarella evenly on top.  Bake 15 minutes, or until cheese on top is completely melted and bubbling.  Serve hot.

Fabulous Find Friday- La Luna Book and Bambino Plush

Today’s fabulous items are the La Luna storybook and Bambino Plush, who is holding a star in his hand.  I was exposed to La Luna when the Pixar short had its theatrical release on 6/22/12 before Pixar’s Brave.  In doing research, I learned the short, written and directed by Enrico Casarosa, was debuted in 2011 at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France.  La Luna was nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film at the 84th Academy Awards.

La Luna is about a young boy, Bambino, who learns about the job his father and grandfather have. They sweep fallen stars off of the moon’s surface.  The men disagree on how Bambino should wear his new hat and even what tool he should use to sweep the stars.  Bambino finds his own identity in how he wears his hat and the way he sweeps the fallen stars.

La Luna and Bambino plush were sold as a set on DisneyStore.com .  However it sold out in less than a day.  I purchased the book at Barnes & Noble for $14.99.  I ordered the 12” Bambino plush from DisneyStore.com for $16.50.

Fabulous Find Friday – Duffy Vinylmation

Today’s fabulous find is the 3” Duffy Vinylmation.  Any Vinylmation is a fabulous find right?   I was hesitant at first to purchase one due to Vinylmations are to be in the shape of Mickey Mouse in my world.  I must say I was surprised at how cute it was with the details.  Duffy was available via the Official Vinylmation Facebook page until a certain date and then became available at Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and DisneyStore.com on 6/29.  The 3” Duffy Vinylmation retails for $14.95.
